Hotshot VFX Briefer

Hotshot VFX Briefer turns timeline markers whose names contain VFX_ into a finished, formatted Excel brief with reference stills, notes, clip metadata, and source clip ranges.

The Mac and Windows editions install differently, so choose the version for your workstation before downloading.

Mac edition

Runs as an external macOS app launched from Resolve's script menu. This keeps Resolve responsive while the app connects back over Resolve's scripting connection.

  • Includes install.command, app scripts, icon files, and the Mac manual.
  • Installer sets up Python dependencies and the Resolve launcher.
  • Requires external scripting enabled in Resolve preferences.

Windows edition

Runs directly inside DaVinci Resolve as a Workspace script, then hands the marker data to the generator script through your system Python.

  • Includes the Resolve script, generator script, icon file, and the Windows manual.
  • Requires Python plus openpyxl and Pillow.
  • Requires path settings at the top of the Resolve script.

What it produces

  • VFX Brief: reference thumbnail, shot code, VFX type, description, priority, artist, status, and notes.
  • Clip Metadata: source clip, scene, take, source in/out frames and timecodes, duration, and camera metadata when available.
  • Consolidated Clip Info: VFX shots grouped by source clip so tracking-data pulls and camera-original ranges are easy to check.
